Why US backed Ukraine wanted NATO membership ?
Ukraine's desire for NATO membership stems from its strategic location and historical experiences. After gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Ukraine aimed to integrate into European and Euro-Atlantic structures, seeking security guarantees and protection from potential threats ¹.
Ukraine's relations with NATO began in 1991, and the country joined NATO's Partnership for Peace program in 1994. Over the years, Ukraine has participated in various NATO-led missions and operations, deepening its cooperation with the alliance.
The 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea and ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine significantly intensified Ukraine's desire for NATO membership. Ukraine views NATO membership as a means to:
- *Enhance National Security*: Counterbalance Russian influence and aggression in the region.
- *Promote Stability and Cooperation*: Strengthen ties with European and North American partners, fostering stability and cooperation.
- *Fulfill European Integration Aspirations*: Align with European values and standards, further integrating into the European community.
In 2014, Ukraine's parliament renounced the country's non-aligned status, paving the way for potential NATO membership. Since then, Ukraine has continued to cooperate closely with NATO, participating in joint exercises and operations ¹.
Ukraine's bid for NATO membership is driven by its desire for security, stability, and closer ties with the European community.
But i don’t agree anymore if compared this with Gaza’s situation
If it’s for Ukraine than it must for Gaza’s protection also and their security and stability ,like Ukraine Gaza have been paid since October 2023,amd still continued…Wars should be ended from all the parts common people have been sacrificed and still struggling…
